The challenge
Two interconnected worlds — the laboratory and the warehouse — each with their own demands, both needing to talk to each other in real time.
In the laboratory
Production of molecular biology reagents involves precise batch formulation, rigorous quality control checkpoints, and full traceability from raw material to finished product. Managing this with spreadsheets and paper records was creating risk and slowing throughput.
In logistics
Orders arriving from distributors and direct customers worldwide needed picking, packing, cold-chain compliance, and despatch documentation — all linked back to batch records in the laboratory. Disconnected systems meant duplication of effort and the potential for costly errors.

Annison Software designed and built two deeply integrated custom systems on the Claris FileMaker platform — one for the laboratory, one for logistics — unified under a single data architecture.

How it fits together
The two systems share a common data layer, meaning a batch completed in the laboratory immediately updates available stock for the logistics team. An order picked in the warehouse draws automatically from the correct batch records, pulling through lot numbers and certificates of analysis without manual intervention.
This end-to-end traceability isn't just operationally useful — it's essential for ISO 13485 compliance, where every product must be traceable from source material to customer delivery.
Built to grow
As PCR Biosystems has expanded its product range and customer base, the system has grown with it. New product lines, additional warehousing workflows and updated regulatory requirements have all been accommodated through iterative development — without rebuilding from scratch.
